Matt McCarty enjoyed a ‘surreal’ week in Utah as he clinched his first PGA Tour win at the Black Desert Championship.
The Black Desert Championship came under fire before a ball was even hit, with Jay Don Blake having been handed a sponsor’s exemption.
But on his 500th PGA Tour start, he went on to miss the cut in Utah, with McCarty finishing on 23 under to come out on top.
Having started the year on the Korn Ferry Tour, the 26-year-old American won on his third PGA Tour start overall.
Michael Kim liked the Black Desert Course, with the PGA Tour having returned to Utah after a break of over 60 years.

Matt McCarty says what Rickie Fowler did after his Black Desert Championship win
McCarty has already moved on to the Shriners Children’s Open, in what is the latest event in the FedEx Cup Fall schedule.
And speaking in his press conference in Las Vegas, the recent PGA Tour winner confirmed that Rickie Fowler had congratulated him on his success.
And having been asked what it is like to go from watching such players on TV to competing with them, McCarty replied: “Yeah, it’s pretty unreal being on the TV I think. Yeah, it’s just crazy.
“Like him and Gary Woodland came up to me and dapped me up and said congrats. That’s pretty insane to be at that place now.
“Yeah, it’s just really cool. I think that just kind of speaks to everything this last week of just a few things that have been surreal for sure.”
Rickie Fowler and Tom Kim in Shriners Children’s Open field
Fowler had only just returned to golf following a three-month break, with the Sanderson Farms Championship his first event back.
He finished T16 on 17 under in Jackson, Mississippi, in a bid to help him prepare for future events such as the ZOZO Championship.
But first the American has headed to Las Vegas, where he is among a strong field for the Shriners Children’s Open.
TPC Summerlin hosts the PGA Tour event, with McCarty and Fowler joined by the likes of Woodland and Tom Kim.
The Black Desert Championship winner will now be eyeing further success to really make a name for himself, although he has secured a Masters exemption with his maiden victory.
