Matt Fitzpatrick is not happy during his final round of the BMW Championship and has slammed the rules officials in the process.

Fitzpatrick is battling to make the top 30 at Castle Pines and is out on course alongside Scottie Scheffler.

The Englishman was going along fairly nicely in his round and was under par before he got to the 8th hole and noticed a small crack in his driver head. From here, things went downhill.

Matt Fitzpatrick fuming with rules officials after BMW Championship ruling

Fitzpatrick could be seen presenting the club to a rules official who then checked in with other officials about the ruling.

Fitzpatrick was suggesting he be able to change the driver head and said he had a couple of spares in his locker if he was allowed.

However, in remarkable footage shared by the PGA Tour’s live feed on Twitter, the US Open winner was denied the chance to change driver head, as the rules officials deemed it not damaged enough.

As the footage continues, ‘Fitzy’ is then seen talking to what looked like a more senior official and he was given the same answer, to which he was caught on mic labelling the decision ‘a joke’, ‘ridiculous’ and ‘an absolute disgrace’.

Local ruling prevents Fitzpatrick from making driver change

You can hear it on the radio from the first rules official but it seems a local ruling has done for Fitzpatrick here.

The baffling thing, though, is that there is a clear problem with the driver head and it has a clear crack on the front, which in turn is impacting the club’s use.

Indeed, Fitzpatrick hit driver after the ruling and there was a clear difference in the ball flight.

The Englishman can then be heard saying to the rules official that he must now use 3-wood for the rest of his round and it is at that point he calls the decision a ‘disgrace’.

Scottie Scheffler seemed to be in agreement with Fitzpatrick as well, with the world number one approaching the officials himself.

Clearly, this is another example of the PGA shooting themselves in the foot.
