Ludvig Aberg made his Ryder Cup debut in 2023 as Europe comprehensively beat the United States in Rome.
Aberg had only just joined the PGA Tour at the time, and hadn’t won a single event. Yet, European team captain Luke Donald had faith in the young Swede to deliver on the biggest stage.
He’s since ascended to number five in the Official World Golf Ranking, having won the Genesis Invitational earlier this year.
Aberg is set to be an integral part of Europe’s Ryder Cup squad for decades to come, but his main focus will be on Bethpage Black.

Ludvig Aberg praises European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald
Aberg revealed recently what Donald has done so well in recent times to help the team ahead of the next Ryder Cup.
All 12 European players who competed at Marco Simone Golf Club were at The Masters last week, allowing them to speak to each other.
Aberg actually said that they didn’t “talk” much at Augusta National, but that it wasn’t an issue because they do already sometimes on WhatsApp.
“No. I mean, we didn’t necessarily talk. We still have a group chat from Rome on WhatsApp, so we text in that one every now and then. Luke has done a great job of keeping us really close and connected.
“I think it’s cool to see the European guys coming up strong this year, multiple wins, and obviously Rory has got three wins. I enjoy it, but there’s a long time to go, and we’ll see how it shapes up.”
The 25-year-old added that the Ryder Cup is something he thinks about regularly and is giving him extra “motivation” to play well on the PGA Tour.
“It’s definitely on my mind. I remember when I got picked for Rome and everyone was telling me, once you make one team, you don’t want to ever miss it, and it’s very true. Yeah, I definitely don’t want to miss that.
“I want to be there, and I want to be playing for Team Europe. It’s definitely on my mind, and using it more as motivation to play well this year more than anything, I think.”

European golfers have dominated the PGA Tour in 2025
The PGA Tour roster is dominated by American players, yet the Europeans have done most of the winning in the 2025 season.
Of course, Rory McIlroy finally won The Masters last week, after landing the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Arnold Palmer Invitational titles recently.
European winners on the PGA Tour this season
| PGA Tour Event | Winner | Nationality |
| The American Express | Sepp Straka | Austria |
| Pebble Beach Pro-Am | Rory McIlroy | Northern Ireland |
| Phoenix Open | Thomas Detry | Belgium |
| Genesis Invitational | Ludvig Aberg | Sweden |
| The Players Championship | Rory McIlroy | Northern Ireland |
| Valspar Championship | Viktor Hovland | Norway |
| The Masters | Rory McIlroy | Northern Ireland |
Viktor Hovland seemingly returned to form with an impressive victory at the Valspar Championship, while Sepp Straka strengthened his Ryder Cup chances with his win at The American Express.
The most unlikely winner so far this season is Belgian Thomas Detry, who played in the Junior Ryder Cup in 2010 but never in the senior version.
