Ludvig Aberg and Rory McIlroy have been reunited at Augusta National, with the duo paired together for the first two rounds of The Masters.

McIlroy and Aberg, who played together at the 2023 Ryder Cup for Team Europe, are joined at The Masters by Akshay Bhatia.

Aberg has been trying to improve his approach play for The Masters, which is now underway at the iconic Georgia venue.

The Swede finished second at the major championship in 2024, four shots behind winner Scottie Scheffler.

It represents Aberg’s best-ever major finish, while his latest partner McIlroy is a four-time major champion.

But the Northern Irishman has constantly failed in his attempts to win The Masters, with second place also his best finish.

Aberg has now shared his verdict on the pairing, having been asked in his opening press conference if it is a good or bad thing given that McIlroy is under the spotlight.

“I think so,” he said. “I think it’s great. Obviously playing Rory you expect good golf and you expect him to come out firing, which is always fun to play with players that are playing well.

“I think it’ll be a cool group, obviously playing with him here. Played a practice round last year together here. Be cool to see him in tournament as well.”

The duo certainly have a strong history together, having both played key roles as Europe beat the USA in Rome in 2023.

Individually meanwhile they have both already won on the PGA Tour in 2025, starting with McIlroy’s win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Aberg then triumphed at the Genesis Invitational, with McIlroy then emerging victorious at the Players Championship.

Their focus is now on Augusta National, where Aberg was also asked what it has been like at the event so far.

“It’s been to play a lot of golf and stop swinging golf,” he said. “I would like to sort of see the ball flights, hit the ball flights, and I’ve kept the score over the last couple days just to sort of get that competitive sort of situation, simulation I guess.”

Asked if that is different than what it would be like in normal tournaments, he replied: “Yeah, I think a little bit.

“I always liked to do it on Wednesdays, but this time I’ve done it every day, which I’ve enjoyed doing and I think it’s been good for me.”

Aberg also shared his thoughts on the 12th hole at Augusta, having been asked if the wind is playing any differently with the trees down.

“I haven’t noticed it,” said the Swede. “It’s always going to being swirling. We had some gusting there yesterday.

“I think you’re always going to have coming kind of in your face and behind your back. Try to hit a little flatter shot. Just take that out a little bit. But haven’t noticed any difference.”
