Ludvig Aberg is one of Europe’s best players, and he will have to play a key role for his team if they are to leave Bethpage Black as Ryder Cup winners.

In 2023, Aberg was a huge hit with his Ryder Cup teammates and the European fans. However, it’s fair to argue that his form isn’t quite as good now as it was back then in Rome.

Aberg may not have been in the best form over the past few months, but his 2025 season on the PGA Tour has to go down as a successful one after he won the Genesis Invitational in February.

The 25-year-old Swede received a Ryder Cup captain’s pick from Luke Donald on Monday, and he will be hugely motivated to go to Bethpage and put in an accomplished performance against the Americans.

Despite his failure to win again after February, Aberg did suggest that he was excited by his form towards the end of the year.

And thanks to his long and straight driving, his game is perfectly suited to the challenge that Bethpage Black represents.

But who would Aberg like to partner up with later this month?

And it was no surprise when the 25-year-old PGA Tour star offered high words of praise for Viktor Hovland.

The Swede suggested that playing alongside the man from Norway in 2023 was one of the highlights of his career so far.

Aberg said: I heard you guys talk to Victor about the nine and seven. That was one of the highlights of my career so far. Definitely brings a smile to my face. I just love thinking back to it. If we get to pair up again that would be amazing.

While Aberg was excited about the thought of pairing up with Hovland again, Donald was just as excited at the prospect of seeing the man from Sweden in action again for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup.

Donald said: Just what we have seen. There are a few players I have played with throughout my career and you just see them for the first time and you know they have something special.

I got a bit of heat before Rome happened when I picked him. New out of college and never played a major. He has almost won the last two Masters [since] though! And situated himself as one of the best players in the world. Winning on the PGA Tour, the accolades keep coming. He is just starting in his career and has already proven he can hang.

Donald is clearly a huge fan of Aberg’s game and why wouldn’t he be? The Swede definitely has the potential to go on and be the best player in the world one day.

When Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland’s bromance blossomed at the Ryder Cup in Rome

Aberg and Hovland formed a wonderful Ryder Cup partnership at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in 2023.

The Swede and the Norwegian partnered up together to defeat Brian Harman and Max Homa 4&3 in the Friday morning foursomes before cruising to a memorable 9&7 win over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka in the Saturday morning foursomes.

They clearly get on very well with one another, and it would be a surprise if Donald didn’t pair them up again at Bethpage Black later this month.

It will be incredibly difficult for Europe to win away from home in America – that hasn’t happened since 2012 after all.

However, Donald will be more than happy with his team and if anything, it’s the United States side that have the biggest concerns right now when it comes to the form of their players.
