Ludvig Aberg will be one of the young stars at the US Open hoping to stop Scottie Scheffler in his tracks and the Swede has already managed to get himself a taste of Oakmont it seems.

With Oakmont known for being one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour, players are under no illusions as to just how tough things might get.

Indeed, Bryson DeChambeau has already shown us how tough it is, while world number one Scottie Scheffler has admitted it’s one of the toughest tracks out there.

Of course, experience could count for a lot among the field but that’s something that Ludvig Aberg simply doesn’t have right now.

Nevertheless, the fearless young Swede has done his best to get his homework in and speaking after the Canadian Open, admitted he’d already been up to the course.

Ludvig Aberg says why Oakmont is going to be so tough at the US Open

Aberg played well at TPC Toronto to give himself a nice feel going into Oakmont and he finished his tournament at -13 for a T13 finish.

He will know he needs to be even better if he is to win at the US Open this week but speaking to the press afterwards, Aberg suggested that Canada had been good prep, while he also admitted to having a sneaky practice at Oakmont already.

“Yeah, I think so. Obviously Oakmont is one of the hardest places in the world. It’s going to be hard to simulate that. I thought this golf course was great, and I had some mixes between some gettable holes and some stronger par-4s and strong par-3s,” Aberg commented.

“It’s a cool mix to go from obviously a drivable par-4 to a long par-3 and then a long par-4 and then some reachable par-3s or par-4s. It’s been great. I had a good time in Canada. Looking forward to next week.”

Asked to comment further on his plans for Oakmont, Aberg admitted he’d already been for a practice at the course and is expecting a tough challenge.

“Yeah, it will be good. I played Oakmont last week before we came here on Monday, and it’s a hard golf course. It demands a lot, demands a lot of patience, demands a lot of execution of golf shots, but that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

Ludvig Aberg’s major record as he looks for a first win

There’s no such thing as a sure thing in golf but when it comes to Ludvig Aberg, it would be quite amazing if he never wins a major.

A player so talented doesn’t come along very often and the fact he’s already had wins on both the European and PGA Tours suggests a major is around the corner at some point.

Indeed, a 2nd on his Masters debut set the tone really in 2024 and while he’s not hit those heights since, he’s one to watch.

Aberg finished T12 in his debut US Open last year and while he missed the cut at the PGA last month, he did finish 7th at Augusta in April.

Rest assured, Aberg is one to keep an eye on at Oakmont.
