Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland were left stunned by something one of their fellow players did at Augusta National on the opening day of The Masters.
Augusta National was very difficult, but on the most part fair, for the opening day of The Masters on Thursday.
And Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland were more than happy with their respective rounds of 68 and 71, when they spoke to the media.
The 89th edition of The Masters is very finely poised after day one, with Justin Rose sitting at the top of the tree after a fine seven-under par 65 around the rolling hills of Augusta.
Slotted in behind the Englishman just three shots back are PGA Tour superstars Scottie Scheffler and the aforementioned Aberg, with Bryson DeChambeau a shot further adrift.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is seven back of Rose’s lead, after recording two double bogies on the 15th and 17th holes respectively.
Numerous players highlighted how difficult the 15th was playing at Augusta, with Tyrrell Hatton even suggesting that he doesn’t like the changes made by Augusta National to that specific hole.
Whilst some moaned about the difficulty of the course, one player skipped around the property with consummate ease.
Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland stunned by Justin Rose’s 65 at The Masters
Rose was in imperious form out in Georgia on Thursday.
He blotted his copybook with a bogey on his final hole of the day, but his seven-under par 65 was still a truly sensational round of golf regardless of that late error.
Rose’s peers were left stunned by what he did around Augusta National.
Viktor Hovland addressed the media after his very respectable round of one-under par 71.
He was utterly flabbergasted after seeing Rose’s score:
“Ridiculous. That’s nuts. Those greens are so firm. I remember a few years ago, I can’t remember what year it was, but he kind of did something similar, I think.
“I think this one is probably a little bit more impressive because out of all the Masters I’ve played, this is probably the firmest it’s been since I’ve played, on a Thursday. It’s definitely no joke out there.“
Meanwhile, Aberg echoed a similar sentiment…

“It’s actually ridiculous. We were walking down, I can’t remember what hole it was, and he got it to 8 at some point, which we were like, that’s pretty impressive.
“I haven’t seen any of his shots or putts, but I would imagine he’s pretty pleased with that.“
When players as good as Hovland and Aberg are stunned by how low someone has just gone, we can be rest assured that something special has just taken place.
Shane Lowry stunned by Justin Rose’s brilliance as well
Irishman Shane Lowry finished with a solid round of one-under par 71 on Thursday.
And he was shocked to be sitting six shots back of his fellow Ryder Cupper after day one:
“I think Justin Rose went a bit crazy today, but this golf course is not giving anything. It’s firm. I believe there might be a bit of rain overnight, but probably won’t be much.
“But yeah, this golf course is going to play tough over the next few days.“
Can Justin Rose emulate what he did on Thursday during day two? That will be incredibly difficult for him to do.
However, if he does shoot a similar score on day two of The Masters, the likes of Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland will have to go really low to remain in contention.
