LIV Golf produced another fine tournament over in Hong Kong as Sergio Garcia came out on top to continue his fine resurgence since moving from the PGA Tour.
Garcia has been one of the big success stories for LIV and he managed to win not only the individual title in Hong Kong, but also saw his Fireballs GC team over the line for the team win.
As those who follow golf know, Garcia is one of the most successful players of all time and he’s made no secret of his desire to play another Ryder Cup.
Indeed, Garcia has even paid up his DP World Tour fines in a bid to make it happen, while Luke Donald admitted he’d chatted to Garcia about the prospect.
And speaking after his win in Hong Kong, Garcia admitted he was loving being the elder statesman for the Fireballs, while his eyes were certainly on Bethpage Black.

Sergio Garcia makes Ryder Cup admission after winning another LIV Golf event
Speaking after his win at the LIV Hong Kong event, Garcia was asked about how much fun he’s having on LIV and specifically, the experience he’s bringing to the table.
“I love it. I obviously love it. I do have two young ones of my own that we also take care of, my wife and I,” Garcia said.
“But no, it’s fun. I really love this format. I really love the team aspect of it and trying to put my arm around them and give them advice if they need it or if they want it and try to help them be the best version of themselves on another golf course. Yeah, it’s been fun.”
Of course, one of the other key matters for Garcia in 2025 is the small matter of the Ryder Cup. And when pressed on that, Garcia admitted that he’d been in touch with Luke Donald.
“I think he’s watching,” Garcia admitted.
“We’ve been in touch, so I know that he’s keeping an eye. The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf, and I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team, and hopefully he will think I’m good enough for it.”
Whether Sergio Garcia thinks he can win another major
Winning in the 54-hole LIV Golf format is one thing but winning a major championship is a whole other level.
Garcia has the Masters to his name so will always get the chance to add another but after missing The Open last year, question marks were raised over his game.
Nevertheless, Garcia has maintained he can win big again.
“I’m not done,” Garcia quipped.
“I think so [can win another major], without a doubt. I think with the way that I’ve played over these last few years, but mostly this year, it definitely shows me that I can.
“I played very well at the US Open without too much stuff really going my way – I finished 12th – so I felt like I had a little bit of an outside chance there.
“The way I’ve been playing, it gives me the feeling that I’m not done in that aspect. I will give myself chances, and then it comes down to little things here and there, but I still feel like I can give myself chances.”
With another LIV win under his belt and seemingly playing some of the best golf he has for years, it won’t be a surprise to see Garcia in contention at some point in 2025.
