LIV Golfer already publicly asks Phil Mickelson if he wants to be US captain for the next Ryder Cup

Phil Mickelson has been keeping a close eye on the Ryder Cup, where the United States have been outplayed by Europe thus far.

Europe entered the final day of the Ryder Cup with an 11.5-4.5 lead over the USA, with captain Keegan Bradley slammed amid the struggles from the hosts.

Bradley highlighted Europe’s fantastic putting after another disappointing day for his side, who are now staring down a heavy defeat.

Golf legend Mickelson praised Bradley’s four-ball pairings on Saturday, but such praise proved ill-fated after the US lost the session 3-1.

The home team suffered the same fate in the morning foursomes session, having entered day two trailing 5.5-2.5.

Mickelson will be desperate for Bradley to inspire some form of comeback from his players, but he has already been offered a proposition for the next edition of the Ryder Cup.

Taking to X, his fellow LIV Golf player and fellow Ryder Cup veteran Lee Westwood wrote: “Hey Phil Mickelson fancy Adare Manor 2027?”

Ireland’s Adare Manor hosts the prestigious tournament two years from now, with Westwood clearly eager for Mickelson to lead the Americans in County Limerick.

He has never served in the role, but Mickelson could captain the US Ryder Cup team in Ireland next time out.

The six-time major winner did serve as vice-captain to Steve Stricker at Whistling Straits in 2021, when the USA beat Europe 19-9.

While a miraculous American fightback is unlikely at this stage, there is still plenty of golf to be played at Bethpage.

Pride remains on the line, while many players across both sides will be desperate to put a foot forward for the 2027 Ryder Cup.

But it does seem that the Americans will need a new leader for Adare Manor, with Bradley dramatically failing to step up to the challenge at Bethpage.

And the visitors could do a lot worse than Mickelson, who has won 21.5 points for America from his 12 Ryder Cup appearances.

He’s behind only Billy Casper and Arnold Palmer in the all-time US points list, and may just be the man to inspire a downbeat team for revenge in two years’ time.

After Adare Manor, the Ryder Cup will return to the United States at Hazeltine National Golf Club in 2029, followed by a trip to Spain’s Camiral Golf & Wellness in 2031.
