LIV Golf player Richard Bland is never afraid to speak his mind, and the Englishman has now taken aim at PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

The Englishman recently claimed that his move to the breakaway tour was 100 per cent due to financial benefits. Furthermore, Bland also admitted Lee Westwood played an essential role in his DP World Tour exit.

The 51-year-old appears to be enjoying himself with LIV and has landed two senior major championship titles in 2024. Now, the former DP World Tour man has taken aim at Monahan for an agreement he made in November 2020.

Richard Bland: Jay Monahan doesn’t care about the DP World Tour

Monahan and the PGA Tour entered into an agreement with the DP World Tour four years ago, which involved the highest-ranked players on the ‘Race to Dubai’ being given a PGA Tour card for the next season. As a result, the DP World Tour has seen top talent continually poached.

And Bland thinks it was a mistake.

“I think getting into bed with the Americans was completely the wrong idea,” Bland told Golf Digest. “Does anyone honestly think [PGA Tour commissioner] Jay Monahan cares about the DP World Tour? No, he doesn’t.

Bland added: “For him, that ’10 player’ deal was all about how he could get the best DP World Tour players competing on the PGA Tour. They [the PGA Tour] don’t care about the DP World Tour. They never have.”

DP World Tour must make changes, and fast

Since several big names have left, it’s clear the DP World Tour must take action to safeguard its long-term future.

Lee Westwood said the lack of big names on tour is causing an issue, and it’s hard to disagree with the now-LIV Golf man. The DP World Tour doesn’t have the big names who garner attention.

Those who were of any interest are playing on LIV or the PGA Tour. Ironically, Westwood is actually highlighting an issue he – Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson – have all been involved in causing.

Had the former European Tour heavyweights shown some concern about their former employers, this situation would have never played out.
