LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has been asked whether Rory McIlroy is better than Vijay Singh in his prime.

Four-time major winner McIlroy endured a tough 2024 season after narrowly missing out on the US Open at Pinehurst. McIlroy will change his schedule in 2025 as he looks to land his first major win in over ten years.

Justin Rose has backed McIlroy to bounce back, and DeChambeau, who beat the Northern Irishman in North Carolina, has been asked to assess McIlroy’s career as a whole.

And the LIV Golf star offered a controversial view when comparing McIlroy’s career to Singh’s.

In a short video posted by LIV Golf on X, DeChambeau was asked to pick between McIlroy and Singh, and the US Open champion went for the Big Fijian.

DeChambeau was asked: “Rory vs Vijay Singh?”

The two-time major winner replied: “In their prime? Oh my gosh. It might have to be Vijay. I think it’s going to be Vijay on that one.”

DeChambeau’s take is particularly interesting when taking into account Singh and McIlroy’s records.

The game’s greatest-ever players are judged on majors, and McIlroy has one more to his name and also has the scope to add several more to his resume.

Singh, however, has more PGA Tour wins and also has an elusive Masters win on his record book. Furthermore, it’s crucial to remember Singh’s prime coincided with Tiger Woods’ domination.

If Tiger wasn’t around, more majors could’ve followed.

It’s certainly an interesting comparison, but considering McIlroy’s career is far from over, it’s hard to argue either side at this point.
