The Ford Championship in Arizona is entering it’s final day and it’s American star Lilia Vu who is the player to beat after Nelly Korda slipped down the field.

Vu carded a solid round of 68 to build on an excellent week so far in Arizona to go two clear of Charley Hull in second ahead of the final round.

Going into round three, Vu was one of the players in contention but all eyes really had been on the likes of Korda and Hull, who had put themselves in the mix over the opening two days.

However, it was Lilia Vu who shot to the top as Korda struggled – she sits seven back – and according to Vu, it was all down to a quick chat with her caddy.

Lilia Vu shares what her caddy told her in round three of the Ford Championship

Speaking after her third round of four under put her top of the leaderboard, Vu admitted that there was a blunt conversation with her caddy that helped her.

Indeed, it seems Vu’s caddy did their job and from there, it was all down to the American’s putting.

“I was telling my caddie, ‘I just can’t get the numbers right today.’ And he just said to me, ‘I’m just going to get you on the green and then you can just try and make the putt from there.’ And that’s what we were doing,” Vu told the press afterwards.

Lilia Vu’s LPGA record compared to Nelly Korda’s

When it comes to being the star of the LPGA scene, Nelly Korda is the top dog and it shows in her form and performances in recent seasons.

But, Lilia Vu is also a top player in her own right and both are cornerstones of the female golfing scene in America.

Korda holds the upper hand with 15 wins but Vu has five of her own and has a realistic chance of making it six at the Ford Championship.

However, while wins are a good metric to look at, it’s in the top tens and top 25s where Korda really comes into her own.

Korda has finished inside the top ten 68 times, with 94 top 25s, By comparison, Vu has 19 top 10s and 34 top 25s.

Furthermore, in terms of earnings, Korda’s $13.6m and Vu’s $6.5m show a distinct difference.

Still, Vu is holding her own and with Korda out of the picture really, she has a big chance of winning tournament number six.
