It feels like every time the LPGA has a big event in recent times, that slow play seems to be a dominating factor and once again, Lexi Thompson is at the heart of things.
Thompson is renowned the world over for not being the quickest and she recently came under fire at the US Open for her pace of play.
At the time, Thompson defended her actions on pace of play but nevertheless, the mood was set.
That’s now continued into this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and once again, Thompson and her group were put on the clock midway through the round.

However, this time, Thompson has come out talking again and suggested the course itself might be to blame this time.

Lexi Thompson says why she was so slow at the Women’s PGA Championship
Lexi Thompson is one of the golden girls of professional golf and it feels harsh to be criticising her at times.
However, there is no doubt she is on the slow side of play and now, she’s been forced by the media to defend herself again.
“Uh-huh. Yeah, we were on the clock. We were warned and then put on the clock for maybe two to three holes, two and a half holes, something like that,” Thompson admitted.
“Yeah, it’s not ideal out there, especially when it’s super windy and you have to back off shots because of gusts and everything like that. But it happens. I mean, we fell maybe a hole behind. I didn’t think that we were playing — I mean, we were playing slow. It took three hours to play the front nine.
“But it’s a difficult golf course. Pins are tough, and some holes are just really par holes that you can’t really hold greens on too, and some holes you have to pitch out. So it’s a difficult golf course to play quickly, safe to say.”

Lexi Thompson has to own the slow play issues
We all saw how Charley Hull reacted at the US Open and in a nutshell, it’s no coincidence that it’s once again Lexi’s group getting put under pressure.
For whatever reason, Thompson just doesn’t seem to be able to pick up the pace and she’s bordering on being ridiculously slow at times.
The only way around this is for dropped shots or loss of earnings to come into play.
Right now, Thompson seems to be testing the boundaries a bit and ultimately, one day it’s going to cost her and her playing partners.
She is, of course, under par and in contention to win. But you feel there’ll be players out there not wanting to be paired with her over the weekend, such is the speed of play right now.
