Lee Westwood has shared his honest thoughts on the course at JCB Golf and Country Club after playing the front nine for the first time on Wednesday.

The Uttoxeter event is a home outing for Westwood, Majesticks co-captain Ian Poulter, and in-form 27-year-old Sam Horsfield.

JCB is the only UK stop on the schedule, and LIV Golf could well have missed a trick given the sell-out event’s popularity.

The unique course is set to provide a test this week, and Sergio Garcia claimed the winning score could be as high as five under or as low as 20.

Speaking during Majesticks’ pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, Westwood claimed that the course looks challenging based on what he’s seen.

“It’s very difficult to tell [what the winning score will be],” said Westwood. “I’ve only played the front nine so far. It looks pretty tricky to me.”

“There are a lot of undulations out there, and the fairways feel quite tight, and the rough is certainly penal if you stray off the fairways. The greens have a lot of undulations in them, so unless you’ve got control of your ball, it’s going to be tough to get close to the flags, I think.”

The Englishman went on to predict what score has a good chance of winning.

He added: “I went round the front nine yesterday and thought three 69s might be good scoring.”

Lee Westwood slowly turning LIV Golf season around

After a miserable start to his 2024 season, Westwood has seen shoots of recovery in recent weeks.

The 51-year-old finished 18th in Houston before placing third at the Nashville event. Westwood’s good form continued in Andalucia last week, where he finished 12th on one over.

Positive signs have now emerged for the former Ryder Cup star, and landing a victory on home turf would certainly feel sweet.

Majesticks are in desperate need of a positive week. Currently ranked third last in the team standings, an upturn in form is required from Westwood on Co. if they’re to salvage anything from the 2024 campaign.
