Lee Westwood responds when asked what he really thinks about music playing during his rounds on LIV Golf

Lee Westwood got off to a very solid start indeed on day one of LIV Golf UK at the JCB Golf and Country Club.

He fired a bogey-free round of five-under par 66 on Friday.

Westwood has shown some fine form in recent weeks, with two top-25 finishes in his last three LIV Golf events, and a tie for 34th at The Open Championship.

The highlight of the 52-year-old Open Championship was his record-equalling back-nine of 29 on Saturday.

It’s very clear to see that he still has a lot of game.

The Englishman seems to be very content on LIV right now. However, he has still admitted to issues with the Saudi-backed golf league.

Westwood recently opened up on LIV facing a problem due to the lack of ranking points on offer.

That may well change one day but for now, Westwood will only be focused on playing the best golf he possibly can.

Westwood is one shot off the lead heading into round two of LIV UK.

Adrian Meronk, Joaquin Niemann and Branden Grace are currently tied for the lead, and Westwood will be very excited indeed about chasing them down on Saturday.

After his first round at The JCB Club, Westwood was asked about the music blaring out around the course on Friday.

He said: “Seemed appropriate, right?

“Am I comfortable with it? Yeah, I don’t mind change and adapting. It’s people in general that don’t like change and adapting. People are used to the traditions and staying in their ways, their comfort.

“But all sports have to adapt and change. I think golf is doing a great job of it through LIV, yeah.“

The players who joined LIV Golf knew what they were signing up for to begin with.

Music playing on certain holes is just part and parcel of life on LIV.

2025 hasn’t been a vintage year for Westwood so far.

However, he has just been starting to show signs of life over the past few weeks.

The fact that Westwood qualified for The Open at 52 was a sign that he still has the hunger required to compete.
