Tommy Fleetwood has joined the iconic list of Tour Championship winners after his fantastic victory at East Lake.

Previous Tour Championship winners include PGA Tour legends Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler fell just short of successfully defending his title this time around, finishing T4 as Fleetwood took top spot.

And along with a new champion, a new format was in play in Atlanta, which had previously featured starting strokes.

Since 2019, the player with the most FedExCup points started the tournament on 10-under, followed by the second player on eight-under.

Kevin Kisner shares verdict on new Tour Championship format after Tommy Fleetwood win

Previously, the third player would start on seven-under, the fourth on six-under and the fifth on five-under, with the rest of the field starting between four-under and even par.

Sharing his verdict on the new format, where all 30 players teed off on even par, Kevin Kisner said on Golf Channel: “I would look at this year as a bridge year. They have rewarded Scottie Scheffler with $23 million before East Lake even came up.

“I still think just because Tommy didn’t win he still had one hell of a year. He was in contention all year round and played remarkable all the way up to sixth in the world.

“He probably should have won multiple times on Tour, but I don’t think if we didn’t change the format that we would have had the storylines and drama we had yesterday.

“I thought the format change allowed the entire day to be better for our fans and our TV audience and I really think the drama was there.

“We had all those professional athletes coming in and tweeting and on Instagram. I just don’t think that happens if we still had the starting strokes and people were trying to figure out what the heck is going on.”

It really was a tournament filled with drama and twists and turns, much to the delight of those at East Lake and those watching on from elsewhere.

And fittingly it was Fleetwood who lifted the trophy, finally getting over the line after a long list of near misses.

A huge $10million prize has also gone his way, with the $40million total purse having been the largest of any tournament on the PGA Tour.
