Team USA have named a surprise 2025 Ryder Cup captain, with Keegan Bradley taking charge of the side next year.

The six-time PGA Tour winner will lead the team for the upcoming edition, which is set to take place at Bethpage Black in September.

Tiger Woods was seemingly a strong contender for the role at the New York course, but has decided against the Team USA captaincy.

Bradley has now been entrusted with the major responsibility, with Webb Simpson and Matt Kuchar having also been on the shortlist of candidates.

The 2011 PGA Championship winner has it all to do in Farmingdale, with Team Europe the defending champions.

The visitors head to Bethpage on the back of their superb win in Rome, where the hosts secured a 16½-11½ victory.

But Bradley is already preparing for the next edition of the prestigious event, which he believes will stand out from the rest.

“I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to captain the United States Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup,” said Bradley, as per the official PGA Tour website.

“I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their trust in me as we embark on this journey to Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.

“My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations for 2025.”

Can Keegan Bradley guide Team USA to 2025 Ryder Cup success?

Bradley hasn’t been an assistant captain for the event, but he does boast a superb record in terms of playing.

The 38-year-old is 4-3-0 in his two Ryder Cup appearances in 2012 and 2014 at Medinah and Gleneagles respectively.

Team Europe will still be on a high after their superb success in Italy last time out, with the side unsurprisingly sticking with winning captain Luke Donald.

The former world number one will once again lead the Europeans at the Ryder Cup, having won all four events that he has played in.

Donald also served as a vice-captain twice, and will once more rely on his recent vice-captains Thomas Bjorn and Edoardo Molinari at Bethpage.
