Justin Thomas and Adam Scott go into the Tour Championship this week with very different expectations.

Thomas will be one of the players staring at level par after sneaking in for 30th place following the BMW Championship.

Scott, meanwhile, will begin on three-under after an excellent few weeks and a stunning effort last week propelled him into the upper echelons of the final 30.

For both players – who are both major winners – simply getting to this point of the season is something they strive for.

Thomas, of course, has had quite the up and down season and he only made it in thanks to a few slip ups from others at the BMW.

Still, the American has been speaking on qualifying and suggested it’s something he feels he always has to do.

Justin Thomas shares what he and Adam Scott agree on when it comes to the Tour Championship

Thomas has been chatting to the media ahead of the opening round at East Lake and unsurprisingly, he was quizzed on his 2024 form overall and still qualifying for the top 30.

And answering the question, Thomas drew on a conversation with Adam Scott to explain how happy he is to be playing.

“Although I do feel like it’s something I should achieve and get here every year, it’s still an accomplishment. Especially with how the season is now, being a lot shorter,” Thomas quipped.

“I was talking to Adam Scott about it last night. It’s just, I don’t think you can really like 8th to 20th your way to East Lake.

“You kind of could before, I don’t know if that’s statistically accurate or makes sense but you could play really well all year and just have a lot of top 10s, 15s, 20s and by the amount of events you’d end up being here.

“Whereas now I feel like if you don’t win or have many top twos or threes, I feel you need a lot of top tens to even just get here.”

Thomas and Scott will be out to cause an upset

The good thing for Justin Thomas and Adam Scott going into this week is that there is absolutely no pressure on them to win.

With that in mind, they can simply go out and there and look to play their best golf and see what happens.

Thomas is ten behind the leader while Scott is seven back.

Still, you just never know and it only takes a round of 66 or 67 and for Scottie Scheffler to drop a few and suddenly that gap looks a lot smaller.

If either of these players can finish in the top ten, then they’ll both be delighted with how their season has ended.
