Justin Thomas has shared his honest opinion on Valhalla after visiting his hometown course ahead of the PGA Championship.
The year’s second major returns to Louisville on May 16 for the fourth time, ten years on from Rory McIlroy’s 2014 triumph.
Two-time major winner Thomas is looking to make it a hat-trick of PGA Championships after picking up his last title in 2022.
Since his playoff victory at Southern Hills, things haven’t gone entirely to plan for the 30-year-old, who relied on a captain’s pick to make the USA Ryder Cup team.
For Thomas, picking up a third title in his home state would be extra special, and he has previously heaped praise on the course at Valhalla.
Justin Thomas has had his say on Valhalla after playing the course

The Louisville venue has played host to some great moments over the years. Tiger Woods’ playoff victory over Bob May in 2000, the 2008 Ryder Cup, and McIlroy’s dramatic victory in 2014.
Four-time major winner McIlroy won by one shot ahead of Phil Mickelson, who nearly chipped in for eagle on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.
There have been some memorable moments, and Thomas will be eager to etch his name into the Wanamaker Trophy once more.
Taking to his personal Instagram account, the 30-year-old posted a photo of the course and his first impressions of what he’s seen at Valhalla.
He said: “Can’t believe in just 2 short weeks I get to play a PGA Championship in my home state! Enjoyed checking out Valhalla today for the first time in a while. Course is looking great. Can’t wait to get going next week. Wells Fargo, then back to the Bluegrass state.”
Fascinating PGA Championship in store at Valhalla this month
This year’s PGA is shaping up to be an intriguing contest. Of course, Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to land his fifth win in six starts and what will be his third major championship.
Of course, the 27-year-old ball-striking machine will head to Louisville with all the expectations on his shoulders, but, to date, he’s taken it in his stride. His recent Sunday performance at The Masters was near-perfection.
Another intriguing storyline comes with the LIV Golf contingent. Brooks Koepka sent the golfing world a stark reminder of his ability during his dominant two-shot victory at LIV Golf Singapore this weekend. The five-time major champion has become the first man to win four LIV individual titles.
Jon Rahm is another who cannot be written off. The Spaniard has been in consistent form since turning his back on the PGA Tour in December 2023.
As for Thomas, it will take something pretty special for him to contend at Valhalla. Despite being more than capable, it’s hard to envisage a dramatic return to form in his home state.
