Justin Thomas is working with a temporary caddie at the RBC Heritage this week, and it seems to be going well.

His usual caddie, Matt “Rev” Minister, suffered a back injury before The Masters, so he needed to find a replacement quickly.

Coincidentally, Max Homa had just parted ways with Joe Greiner before Augusta National, whom Thomas knows well himself.

It was an easy decision to ask Greiner to carry his bag for the next few weeks. Here’s how it’s going so far.

Justin Thomas gives verdict on temporary caddie Joe Greiner at RBC Heritage

Thomas finished 36th at The Masters in a decent first start with Greiner as his caddie. Now, this week at the RBC Heritage has gone better than expected after two rounds.

The American equalled the Harbour Town Golf Links course record with a 10-under 61 on Thursday and followed up with a solid 69 on Friday.

Thomas was asked about Greiner after his second round at Hilton Head, saying that it’s been “a lot of fun” to work with him, considering they’re still getting used to each other.

“It’s great,” he explained. “We’ve had a lot of fun. I think we… it’s hard because I always thought caddies are in a tough spot already and kind of like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation, let alone when it’s the second week he’s ever caddied for me.

“He knows I’m playing well, and he knows that I feel the same way. So he’s wanting to help but also trying to not over caddie, and it’s tough. But he’s doing a great job. It’s more fun than anything just because he’s got a great personality and sense of humor where I can make fun of him.

“Some hole today, we were talking about something, and I was like, no, it’s a perfect this. Afterwards, he goes, you know, you can tell me to shut up if it’s the wrong club. I’m like I kind of indirectly did. Just a lot of stuff like that, but we’re having good fun.”

Justin Thomas explains how RBC Heritage golf course is changing

Thomas had already expressed his love for the Harbour Town course, and he doubled down on that in his post-round interview on Friday.

However, the 31-year-old did share how he thinks the course changed from the first to the second day and will continue to get more difficult over the weekend.

He told the media, “Yeah, the golf course felt completely different. It’s definitely firming up. We even noticed it just kind of on some chips, the pitch shots, like some wedges, the balls. Shots that I felt like I hit very nicely, and it just doesn’t… It’s not spinning as much. They’re getting crusty, and it’s fun.

“This place is so cool, I think, to play when it’s like this. It just puts such an emphasis on precision. I need to drive it a little bit better than I did today to be able to put it in better spots. Yeah, it was a great grind to shoot a couple under today.”
