Justin Thomas says what he really thought of Tommy Fleetwood as a person during their Ryder Cup singles match

Justin Thomas will be going up against Tommy Fleetwood in the Skins Game, after its 15-year hiatus from our television screens.

Thomas and his Ryder Cup singles opponent Fleetwood will go head-to-head with Xander Schauffele and Keegan Bradley at the Skins Game at Panther National in Palm Beach, Florida, in November.

The first ever Skins Game was held in 1983, when Gary Player won the showpiece event after coming up against golfing greats Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.

While the four players competing in the Skins Game this year aren’t quite on the same level as those greats mentioned above, they should still provide plenty of entertainment for the fans.

Thomas and Fleetwood have enjoyed playing together in regular golf tournaments.

However, taking the tense atmosphere into account at Bethpage Black, was there any animosity between the two players?

Thomas got the better of Fleetwood at the Ryder Cup last month, after he birdied the final hole to win 1 up against the Englishman.

The atmosphere at the Skins Game in November will be much more friendly than it was at Bethpage; that goes without saying.

Thomas was speaking on ‘Gravy and the Sleeze’ on SIRIUS XM PGA TOUR Radio, and he was asked about the prospect of playing against Fleetwood at Panther National next month.

He said: “Tommy is one of those guys who even when you want to dislike him, even when I was playing him in the singles, it’s like I wanted to dislike him and Fino, but they’re like the best.

“And even if I didn’t like Fino I wouldn’t say that because he might decimate me, I mean he’s very scary

“He’s such a good dude, he’s more like a kill you with kindness kind of thing and he’ll just throw in those little subtle digs once in a while.“

The Skins Game has a brand new format for 2025

Skins is a game whereby each hole carries a monetary value.

Any player who wins a hole ‘banks’ the value of each hole. If the hole is halved, the money is carried over to the next hole and so on until someone wins the hole outright.

However, there will be a big twist at Panther National next month, with all four players starting on $1 million.

Each player’s prize money will then rise or fall throughout the challenge, depending on their performances.

Thomas, Fleetwood, Schauffele and Bradley should provide some great entertainment for the fans at the Skins Game during what is a fairly quiet period on the golfing calendar.

And although the Skins Game is obviously not on the same scale as the Ryder Cup, Fleetwood will be out for revenge as he comes face to face with Thomas once again.
