Justin Thomas certainly knows what it takes to win majors, with the American needing that experience to help him at The Open.
The fourth and final major of the year is now underway at Royal Troon Golf Club, with Thomas having finished his first round as the clubhouse leader.
He finished with a three under 68 at the Scottish course, having carded seven birdies in his opening round of The Open Championship.
Thomas will have been delighted with the display, but at the same time it will give him an unwanted reminder of his Scottish Open performance last week.
The American led the way after round one at The Renaissance Club, storming to the top with an eight under 72.

Justin Thomas ‘excited’ after his rare achievement in his first round at The Open
It represented his lowest PGA Tour opening round since his 59 at the 2017 Sony Open, while Thomas also sank his longest putt on the tour since round one of the 2022 Valspar Championship.
Thomas ended up tying for 62nd last week despite that stunning start, but the two-time major winner has bounced back in superb fashion at The Open.
“I’m playing really well,” Thomas said on his post-round interview on Sky Sports. “I feel confident about my game.
“I have been getting better and better throughout the year which is nice. It’s what you would like to do at the start of every season. I just haven’t had the results to show.
“A lot of golf left this week but it’s nice to get off to a good start in a major, it’s not something I have done in the past very often, so I’m excited. I love Open championships and links golf.”
Justin Thomas must forget about his Scottish Open downfall
Thomas is a 15-time PGA Tour winner, with the 31-year-old clinching PGA Championship success in 2017 and 2022.
Given his superb success over the years, which once helped him reach the number one ranking, Thomas is among the top 10 highest-earning golfers of all time.
He has been there and done it all before, but Troon represents a new challenge this week, given the changes to the course and indeed the ever-changing weather conditions.
Several players struggled in their opening rounds, but Thomas wasn’t one of them, with the American now needing to take his form into round two.
He will, however, need to put those memories of the Scottish Open behind him, having disappointingly followed his opening round 62 with scores of 72, 71 and 71.
