Justin Thomas failed to get into contention at the FedEx St Jude Championship, but he has qualified for the BMW Championship.
Thomas loved the course at TPC Southwind, which played host to the first of three FedEx Cup playoff events.
And two-time major champion Thomas started strongly at the St Jude Championship, carding a two-under 68.
Rounds of 72 and 70 followed, before the American ended very strongly with a 65 to finish T28 on five-under.
But it was Justin Rose who clinched the title, seeing off J.J. Spaun in a thrilling playoff in Memphis, Tennessee.

Rose praised Spaun after their nail-biting finish, in which the Englishman beat the American after three attempts.
Thomas meanwhile has already turned his focus to the BMW Championship, which takes place at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland this week.
Sharing an update for his fans after his first outing, Thomas wrote on Instagram: “Week one of the FedEx Cup playoffs in the books at the FedEx St Jude Championship.
“Wasn’t the week we had in mind but finally got it going today. Let’s ride that momentum into the BMW Championship!”
How did Justin Thomas perform at the FedEx St Jude Championship?
Thomas has plenty to work on if he is to really contend in Maryland, but he certainly has momentum on his side.
Only Cameron Young’s six-under represented a better final round at the St Jude Championship, with Thomas having been joined on five-under by Spaun and Hideki Matsuyama.

But there is still a lot of room for improvement, while those at the top of the most recent event really do look a class above right now.
A 16-time PGA Tour winner, Thomas finished his four rounds with 16 birdies, 46 pars, nine bogeys and one double bogey.
