Justin Thomas is finally a winner on the PGA Tour again as he followed in Rory McIlroy’s footsteps by breaking a long hoodoo at the RBC Heritage.
Thomas fought off Andrew Novak in a playoff as he holed a fine putt from all of 25 feet to win for the first time since 2022 and finally break his long streak of coming up short.
Thomas has been playing well in 2025 and has finished second twice already.
At Harbour Town Links, it finally came together and after Thomas spoke of McIlroy inspiring him last weekend, the two-time major winner has once again namechecked the Masters champion.

Justin Thomas mentions Rory McIlroy again after winning The RBC Heritage
The relief for Justin Thomas was palpable and in the interviews after his win, you could see he was delighted to be back in the winner’s circle.
Still, Thomas maintained his composure and when speaking about getting back to winning ways, he once again mentioned McIlroy’s success at Augusta.
“It’s obviously incredibly different from Rory’s situation, but there is a little bit of relief there. This was just the me of old. I was just really patient today,” Thomas admitted as he touched on McIlroy’s quest to win The Masters compared to his quest to win again.
Thomas also commented further, admitting it felt strange not winning for so long.
“Winning is hard. Really really hard. I worked my butt off, stayed patient and stayed positive. Got a great wife, great team. You take it for granted sometimes and I didn’t realise how much I missed winning and battling out today was so much fun.”
