Justin Thomas sends heartfelt message to Masters winner Rory McIlroy after finishing T36 at Augusta National

It wasn’t to be for Justin Thomas at The Masters this week but he’s been big enough to come out on social media and send his congratulations the way of Rory McIlroy.

Thomas started the week looking in good enough form and was level par after two rounds.

However, he had a disaster on the Saturday to card a four over par third round and never had it in him to recover massively on the Sunday, despite carding a hard-earned 70 to finish the tournament at two over.

Still, the event itself was about one man and one man only, and that was Rory McIlroy.

And over on Instagram, Thomas has given his thoughts on his own tournament and in doing so, sent a message to McIlroy as well.

Both McIlroy and Thomas are both in their 30s and have been around each other long enough – both on the PGA Tour and TGL scene – to respect each other’s game.

Now, taking to Instagram to post a message to McIlroy and sum up his own week, Thomas has spoken of how McIlroy fully deserved his grand slam.

As Thomas mentions in his post, he did at least finish the tournament on a high as both he and the ever popular Min Woo Lee chipped in to end their week.

Now, the focus for Thomas will be getting back to his best and throughout 2025, hopefully competing with McIlroy in the big events.

Justin Thomas’ poor run at The Masters continues

Make no mistake about it, Justin Thomas is not playing anywhere near the level he once did when he became a multiple major champion.

He’s not won since he won the PGA Championship in 2022 and although there’s been signs of an uptick this year, his recent Masters woes continue.

Having missed the cut in the last two years, Thomas will have been pleased to make the weekend but his tournament whimpered out into nothing really.

Still, he has two runner up positions in 2025 and after admitting here he finds McIlroy’s performance inspiring, it might just kick him on to get back to his very very best.
