Justin Thomas is firmly in contention heading into the final round of the ZOZO Championship at Accordia Narashino Country Club in Japan.

Thomas is currently 15 under and two back from leader Nico Echavarria. The two-time major winner has dropped just one shot all week and posted a five-under 65 on Saturday.

Thomas’ driving and putting have greatly improved, and the American is looking to win for the first time since the 2022 PGA Championship.

Speaking after his third round, the 31-year-old explained why he’s struggled to turn good performances into wins in recent years.

During his post-round media duties, Thomas accepted that failing to execute during pressurised moments has proven to be the biggest issue.

“When you’re fortunate enough to have a couple of hot streaks during your career, it can seem and look easier for everybody else as well,” Thomas explained.

“At the end of the day, it has been a while, but I’ve still won a pretty good number of golf tournaments. I know how to win. It’s just a matter of executing and doing it and that’s just really the biggest difference, there’s a reason there’s only one every week.

“You have to play really well and beat a lot of good players. I have a lot of faith in myself and my game.”

Justin Thomas back in form ahead of 2025 season

Thomas’ performance this week provides optimism ahead of the 2025 PGA Tour season. The two-time major winner is looking to contend more often when the new year rolls around, and the early signs are positive.

When at his best, Thomas is more than capable of matching the world’s best, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Collin Morikawa.

Consistency, however, has been a massive issue. Thomas’ woes were evident at The Open Championship. The American went from leading after round one to nearly missing the cut.

If Thomas can add consistency and regularly complete four rounds, wins will undoubtedly follow. Many will hope the ZOZO Championship will mark the end of the 31-year-old’s winless run.
