Justin Thomas is continuing his return to form at The Truist Championship and going into the weekend, he is well in contention after mastering Philadelphia Cricket Club.

In damp conditions and with preferred lies in play, Thomas mustered up another under-par round of 67 to go to minus seven overall and just five shy of Keith Mitchell at the summit.

Thomas won recently on the PGA Tour to end his near three year hiatus from the winner’s circle and now, seemingly full of confidence, he is playing well again.

Of course, getting round the old track in Philadelphia is a challenge and there are some interesting and challenging holes to play.

However, for Justin Thomas, there is one standout hole among the 18 in Philly.

Justin Thomas picks his favourite hole at Philadelphia Cricket Club

Thomas was speaking to the media on-course after his round of 67 put him within five of the leaders and he was soon quizzed on the course itself.

Indeed, when asked about his favourite hole, Thomas admitted that one par three stood out.

“I really, I mean, like I don’t dislike any of them. I mean, I think 14 is an awesome hole, the short par three,” Thomas admitted.

“I will take that to my grave, that short par threes are just so much better than any long par three, I don’t think I’ve ever played a par three over 200 yards that I would call memorable for its design versus, it seems like all par threes that are short like that are great.”

To the non-golfer, a par three might be seen as easy. A shorter hole, usually a mid-to-short iron, and three shots to get it into the hole from usually less than 200 yards.

However, anyone who plays the game knows that par threes are the nemesis of golfers all over and at any level.

The par three 14th at Philadelphia Cricket Club is a devilishly tricky hole.

So far this week, Thomas is one over on the hole having bogeyed in the first round and parred in the second.

Like so many around the world – such as the Postage Stamp at Troon or the 12th at Augusta – the most simple of tasks on the eye is often the most difficult.
