The Olympics are in the bag after an enthralling few weeks in Paris and golf once again shone on the world stage.

Golf is one of the relatively new sports in the Olympics having only being re-introduced back in 2016.

As we know, Great Britain’s Justin Rose took his opportunity to win the gold in Rio in 2016, while in Tokyo in 2020, American Xander Schauffele seized his moment to take gold.

This year, hopes were high among both the USA and GB teams and once again, they didn’t disappoint.

World number one Scottie Scheffler took home the gold but he only just managed it, sneaking ahead of Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood in the silver medal position. Hideki Matsuyama took the bronze for Japan.

Now, with the Olympics coming to an end and Great Britain taking home 65 medals, Justin Rose has offered up his congratulations to the whole squad.

Justin Rose congratulates Team GB as Tommy Fleetwood’s silver helps them to 65 medals

Taking to social media platform X to share his delight at the final standings, Rose posted a typically classy message to Team GB.

How the biggest names in golf got on in the Olympics

As mentioned, three of the game’s biggest names all managed to snag themselves a medal.

However, there was also some decent enough performances from some other big names, while for some, there was disappointment.

Three of the four Americans finished inside the top 15 as Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele battled hard, with Collin Morikawa down in 24th.

Ireland’s Rory McIlroy was also not far away, finishing in a tie for 5th with Spain’s Jon Rahm to come up just shy of a medal.

South Korea’s Tom Kim was also 8th, while the ever erratic Viktor Hovland struggled and placed way down in 30th.

All in all, though, it was another great showing for golf in general and once again cemented just why it should be included at the Olympics in 2028 and beyond.
