Jordan Spieth shares what he’s going to do differently to attack the course at this week’s John Deere Classic

Jordan Spieth is back at the John Deere Classic this week, and the American is planning to attack the course very differently.

The 30-year-old has previously lifted the title twice in Illinois and is looking to finally turn his disappointing season around.

Despite insisting his game is in a good place, the American has failed to find consistency this year and is coming off a T63 finish at the Travelers Championship.

With the FedEx Cup playoffs fast approaching, improved performances are non-negotiable, heading into a crucial stretch of the season.

Speaking to the media ahead of this week’s event, Spieth claimed his improved distance off the tee will help him attack TPC Deere Run differently.

“I think the biggest difference right now in how I’ll play it – clearly, I am not the same player I was the last time I was here – but I hit it quite a bit further now, so attacking the course off the tee a little bit different,” Spieth explained.

“I’ve noticed I’ve hit some clubs in shorter clubs than I had. Today, I hit one on 4, where I thought, man, I might have hit that a little too far right, but it was out in the middle of the fairway and cut a corner.”

He added: “So I think as much as I can hopefully draw on good memories and good spots and where to play from in the past. Maybe I’ll be able to take advantage of my length on a couple of holes.”

Spieth couldn’t be further from what the golfing world saw back in 2015; the proof of his poor performance is in the results.

In the most significant events of the season, the 30-year-old has massively underperformed. But it could take an event like the John Deere Classic to fire the American back into form.

Winning is an excellent habit, and if he can rediscover some sort of form this week, he could be a threat during another extremely busy part of the 2024 season.

Something needs to click for Spieth and fast. If his poor form continues, the prospect of missing out on the PGA Tour playoffs becomes a genuine possibility.
