Jordan Spieth has roared back into form at the WM Open in Phoenix and is within three shots of the lead ahead of round three getting underway.

The American is back playing and despite Spieth admitting his wrist injury hurt again at Pebble Beach, he has found form to sit on nine under at the Waste Management Open.

For Spieth, simply being back in contention will be a good feeling but being the competitor he is, he’ll also want to convert and try and win.

And according to Spieth, the course in Phoenix very much offers up the chance for some good scoring, if he can get everything going.

Jordan Spieth predicts what could happen in round three of the Waste Management Open

With Spieth just three shy of leader Thomas Detry, he very much knows he is in contention after going over two years without a win.

Indeed, according to Spieth, some low scores are possible but he’s also wary of things going south as well.

“Yeah, it’s crazy. Here four shots can be made up in four holes. It’s also hard to make up shots if somebody is on their game because look at what Nick did last year. Charley came through, I was playing with Charley, he posted an unbelievable score and then Nick came through and somehow won the golf tournament,” Spieth said.

“When someone is on, they’re on, but you can also have some bad breaks. Rickie has had it. Hideki has had it here where he hit some great shots that don’t end up in the perfect spots. Tomorrow the pins will be a little harder in the closing stretch than they were today.

“15 and 17 I think will be quite a bit harder. It might not yield 5-under in the last six. But it’s all about just controlling emotions, giving yourself looks.”

Jordan Spieth looking to break near three-year drought on the PGA Tour

For a player as good as Jordan Spieth, going nearly three years without a win on the PGA Tour seems almost unimaginable.

However, this is where we are at the moment.

Spieth and Justin Thomas lead a list of top Americans to not have won for some time and with a Ryder Cup year this year, they’ll want to quickly snap that streak.

Whether Spieth can keep up his form and his wrist holds out for another two rounds of consistent play, remains to be seen.

But it’s good to see him back in the mix and if he does get hot, then he could well run away with things.
