Being one of the very best golfers in the world can come with some major perks at times and that’s what happened to Jordan Spieth as he got to share the golf course with former US president, Barack Obama.
Obama is one of the biggest political figures in US history and having served two terms as president of the United States, he’s now enjoying semi-retirement and getting plenty of golf in.
Indeed, back in 2018, when Spieth was very much one of the main men on the PGA Tour, the three-time major winner had the honour of sharing the fairways with Obama.
However, just as expected, it wasn’t all plain sailing and Jordan Spieth once told the story of his experience with Obama, including a remarkable final hole.

Jordan Spieth shares what Barack Obama was like on the golf course
Spieth was speaking back on a 2018 episode of The James Corden Late Late Show and was asked about a recent round of golf with the former president.
And in a hilarious tale, Spieth revealed how Obama was a master of the mind-games, right until the final hole.
“He was incredibly cool. We had a great time. I would expect any former president, one of the highlights would be when your presidency is over you can kind of mess with everybody right?,” Spieth said.
“And so yeah, I asked him a question, ‘what’s the one thing you weren’t prepared for and learnt from your two terms and learned on the go?’ and he kind of went into this really intense spiel before his putt about how important the job is, how you have to act and be the first in the world etc. So he goes through this whole serious spiel and right before he hits his putt, he goes ‘You won’t believe what the aliens look like!’
“He goes ‘they’re freaking crazy looking’. He makes his putt walks off and gives me a wink and I’m like ‘I’m not going to sleep for a week’.
Carrying on the story, Spieth then revealed how Obama actually ended up beating him on the final hole, much to the delight of the former president.
“It was a neat experience. But so, you can’t lose to him cos he’s going to go tell people and be like ‘I beat Jordan Spieth’,” he continued.
“So we had a two on two match, it came down to the last hole and the president had like a ten foot double breaker. It’s my home course, I’ve never seen anyone make the putt. A small crowd had gathered like you’d expect and he kind of said ‘when there’s a crowd I never miss’.
“And he steps up, knocks this perfect putt, perfect speed, centre of the hole and he won the match right there on the last hole and he just turned and said ‘told ya’ and we shook hands and walked off.”
How Barack Obama’s golf handicap compares to Donald Trump
A lot of former presidents love the game of golf and Obama is just one of many.
Of course, we all know Donald Trump’s love for the game and the current president seems to spend plenty of his time out on the fairways.
Trump is believed to play off around 2.5, while the last president before Trump, Joe Biden, is said to be off just under seven.
As for Obama, he has claimed in the past he plays off around the 13 mark, while another famous face, George W Bush, played around the 15 mark and 10 at his very best.
Who knows, one day we might just get the former president’s golf open and in fairness, that would be quite the spectacle to tune into.
