Jon Rahm suffered PGA Championship disappointment at the weekend as he threw away the chance to challenge Scottie Scheffler in a disastrous back nine at Quail Hollow.

Rahm had drawn level with Scheffler around the midway point in round four but after making birdie birdie on the back nine to really kickstart his charge, Rahm then made four pars in a row before going bogey, double, double on the final three holes to throw away any chance he might have had.

In the end, Scheffler won by five strokes as Rahm tumbled down the leaderboard.

Nevertheless, in what was a good week for Rahm in terms of media interaction and how he was with fans, the Spaniard has shown his class in the aftermath.

Indeed, three days on from losing out to Scheffler, Rahm has posted a message on social media to the three-time major champion.

With Rahm having a fun interaction with a fan he hit off the tee and then also showing his lighter side by admitting he simply loves playing golf for a living, the LIV Golf star appears to have turned a corner in the eyes of some.

Now, after taking time out to process his loss at Quail Hollow and Scheffler’s performance, Rahm has taken to X to offer his congratulations to Scheffler and reflect on the tournament.

With Scottie Scheffler now clearly the top player in the world, the task for Rahm is to try and keep pace despite only playing 54-hole events on LIV.

Still, his efforts at the PGA in the main showed he’s still very much a contender and come the US Open in a few weeks, he’ll be right in the conversation to win.

What Jon Rahm said about his back nine struggles at the PGA Championship

After Brandel Chamblee suggested Rahm has had an ongoing swing problem that is costing him in majors, it was always going to be interesting to hear what Rahm himself had to say.

Luckily for us, that’s exactly what we got.

Speaking about his final round, Rahm suggested that it’s more than one thing that cost him.

It’s a couple of things. If there’s ever somebody that’s sitting right here that tells you nerves weren’t a part of it, they’re clearly lying. It’s the main thing we do as a professional sport; it’s controlling what goes through your mind,” Rahm said after the event.

But it’s a bit of…it’s a couple of things. I think it’s linked to some of the things I’ve been working on in the swing. It was the trend today, right. The tee shot on 3, 5, 7 and then 16. They are not bad swings. It’s just a ball that starts left, and it’s not quite cutting.”

Rahm then went into further detail on the shots which hadn’t come off for him in the round, while he also touched on the nerves element again.

Right now, though, Scottie Scheffler is handling those nerves and until other players get up to his level, the world number one will simply continue to win.
