Bryson DeChambeau proved once again that he is still more than competitive at the very highest level of professional golf, with a fine showing at the PGA Championship.
DeChambeau is the only golfer on LIV who has managed to maintain his competitiveness in majors since leaving the PGA Tour in 2022.
Sure, Jon Rahm performed well at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, but in general, the Spaniard’s performances in the four biggest events of the year have been fairly underwhelming.
DeChambeau was frustrated after failing to win the PGA Championship on Sunday, and his inability to really push on during the final rounds of the last two majors will definitely be a concern for him.
In all fairness to the American, he provided box-office entertainment at the PGA Championship last week.

DeChambeau was a class act at Quail Hollow, especially off the course, with his willingness to speak to the media when things hadn’t gone well for him during his rounds.
The 31-year-old from Dallas, Texas now has six top-six finishes in majors since the start of the 2023 season.
That’s quite the record, and he will undoubtedly be desperate to win even more now after Scottie Scheffler took the spoils at Quail Hollow.
Bryson DeChambeau says he wants to develop a new golf ball
DeChambeau is well-known within golfing circles for his relentless pursuit of perfection, especially when it comes to his equipment.
His set of clubs is completely unique. All of his irons are the same length, whilst his armlock putting method is one of a kind.
For the most part, DeChambeau seems to be very happy with what’s in his bag.
However, there is one thing that the two-time US Open winner clearly believes he and his team can still improve.
DeChambeau spoke to reporters after his final round at Quail Hollow, and suggested that he is in need of a new golf ball.

He said, “What I really think needs to happen, being pretty transparent here, is just get a golf ball that flies a little straighter. Everybody talks about how straight the golf ball flies. Well, upwards of 190 like Rory and myself, it’s actually quite difficult to control the golf ball.
“I’m going to work my butt off to make that happen. It’s all up to manufacturing. We’ll see what happens but I’m keen on finding something and I’m keen on improving. I’m excited for that.”
Whether he is able to get a new golf ball in play in time for the US Open at Oakmont next month remains to be seen.
But DeChambeau is obviously thinking that he needs it, in order to win the biggest events.
DeChambeau’s 2025 PGA Championship stats
If DeChambeau can just tighten up his iron play slightly, his third major win will not be too far away.
He is putting on a clinic with his driver right now, and his putting, chipping and pitching are all in great shape as well.
Here is a look at his numbers from Quail Hollow last week.
| Category | Strokes gained | Field rank |
| Off the tee | 6.664 | 1st |
| Approach | 0.250 | 47th |
| Around the green | 1.788 | 31st |
| Putting | 3.136 | 22nd |
| Total | 11.838 | T2nd |
Scottie Scheffler is obviously the main man in world golf right now, but DeChambeau is undoubtedly up there as one of the biggest entertainers in the sport.
And it will be very interesting to see whether a change of ball helps him control his iron play more at the US Open next month.
