Jon Rahm kicked off his LIV Golf UK campaign with a dazzling 63 at JCB Golf and Country Club in Uttoxeter.
The Spaniard made eight birdies and sits two shots clear of Andy Ogletree and Abraham Ancer.
Rahm’s Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton also continued his impressive form. He is three shots back on five under.
Two-time major winner Rahm is testing a new Callaway ball this weekend and appears to be enjoying his new equipment.

Rahm admitted that he had been struggling on the par-fives at Royal Troon, and the 29-year-old’s issues on the longer holes have continued at JCB.
“It’s funny,” Rahm told LIV Golf’s website. “I don’t mean to be laughing. Recently, I feel like I’m not doing anything wrong. I’m not making bad swings. I don’t feel like I’m making terrible decisions, but it’s just I’ve got a little streak of bad luck on the par 5s.”
Rahm added: “Didn’t birdie any of them at The Open. Didn’t birdie any of them today. I don’t feel like I did anything terribly wrong.”
Jon Rahm could run away with LIV Golf UK if he corrects par-five issues
Typically, the world’s best players thrive on the longer holes, with the majority able to reach the green in two shots.
Rahm’s struggles, therefore, do come as a surprise.
JCB harbours three par-fives, and if the Spaniard had taken advantage of one or two of the long holes, he would be in an extremely commanding position heading into the weekend.
As the second round gets underway, the two-time major winner will be desperate to put his issues behind him. If he does, his game is looking razor sharp in all other areas as he hunts his maiden LIV Golf victory.
