LIV Golf star Jon Rahm has revealed what he said to Anthony Kim after recently playing with him on the breakaway tour.

Kim was handed a lifeline in 2024 as Greg Norman offered him a wildcard spot in the 2024 LIV Golf season.

The American had become somewhat of a cult figure, having seemingly dropped off the face of the earth for over 12 years after sustaining an Achilles injury.

It’s been a struggle since returning, with the 38-year-old having posted just three under-par rounds in five events.

Speaking ahead of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla, Rahm spoke about his fellow LIV Golf star.

Kim famously beat Sergio Garcia at Valhalla in the 2008 Ryder Cup, a moment Rahm has recently brought up to the American.

Speaking in his press conference, Rahm said: “Playing with Anthony Kim, I said hey man, it’s great to play with you. Because I did mention that was 16 years ago, so I was 13.

“As a 13-year-old, I was very upset when he walked off the green, having beaten Sergio. I was like ‘man, that’s not fair’. And we laughed about it. I made him feel pretty old, but it was fun to talk about in that sense.”

LIV have thrown a massive lifeline to Kim, but he needs to up his performance level.

Norman and Co. will be patient, but ultimately, the Saudi-backed venture needs to be attractive in a competitive sense; having a player regularly carding over par rounds and finishing last won’t cut it.

There has been talk of Kim eventually returning to the Ryder Cup stage, but that feels like a pipe dream.

It’s a similar story with the major championships.

Qualification for the U.S. Open and The Open is a possibility, but right now, Kim’s game is nowhere near good enough to secure a spot in 2024’s remaining majors.

As he’s previously alluded to, taking each 18 holes at a time should be the route forward. Considering the time he’s taken out of the game, a lot of work will have to take place behind the scenes; whether he’s willing to put in the effort required remains to be seen.
