Anthony Kim has shared whether he still hopes to make another Ryder Cup appearance following his return to professional golf this year.
Anthony Kim’s return has been one of the big stories in the sport in the opening months of 2024. The 38-year-old had become something of a mythical figure after disappearing from golf in 2012.
He had become something of a cult-hero, with various stories emerging concerning what Kim had been up to in the years since. Many of those stories were probably wide of the mark.
The intrigue surrounding Kim came from the fact that he appeared to have the world at his feet. And one of the high points of his career came in 2008 when he was part of the American Ryder Cup team which won at Valhalla.
Anthony Kim asked about future Ryder Cup hopes
Kim made a real statement with his 5&4 win over Sergio Garcia in the singles. Few would have ever imagined that he would not play another Ryder Cup match for at least 17 years.

He made his return by joining LIV earlier this year. And he has found the going challenging, with Kim finishing last in Miami over the weekend.
What you have to say is that Kim has done remarkably given how long he has been away from the game. With that, it was no surprise that he was asked in an interview with LIV whether he has his sights on playing in another Ryder Cup.
“That’s obviously a great memory of mine, but at this point, I’m just worried about finishing the 18 that’s in front of me,” he said.
“I know that I have bigger goals that I’ll keep to myself for now. But hopefully, I’ll get that opportunity one day. I’m not counting on it. I’m just going to try play every hole, every shot the best I can and see where the results end up.”
Never say never
There may come a point where fans do grow tired of seeing Kim towards the lower end of the leaderboard. But for now, LIV have been vindicated for offering him a return.
It will be fascinating to see how his game will change over the coming months. It is incredibly unique to see someone regularly competing with the world’s best after barely lifting a club for more than a decade.
The smart money would suggest that his Ryder Cup career will remain behind him.
But then, there was a time when there seemed to be absolutely no chance of Kim playing professionally again.
