Jon Rahm could be set to play in his first DP World Tour event of the season, but there are still some complications for the Spaniard to overcome.
The LIV Golf star wants to participate in the Spanish Open, which gets underway in September at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
However, due to his presence on the breakaway league, the Spaniard has been heavily fined by the DP World Tour despite keeping his membership. Eddie Pepperell has claimed Rahm isn’t overly keen to pay his outstanding fines.
But with fellow LIV Golf star Patrick Reed returning to DP World Tour events, Rahm has now outlined what he needs to do to participate in his country’s most prestigious event.
Jon Rahm shares latest on Spanish Open participation

Speaking ahead of this week’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, the two-time major winner has suggested there are issues he needs to sort out with the tour before September’s event.
“We are still in conversations with the tour,” Rahm explained. “I haven’t been able to play any tour events, so we are going to have to sort it out before I want to tee it up at the Spanish Open.”
The LIV Golf man also revealed that his wife’s pregnancy could throw his participation into doubt.
Rahm added: “But at this point, I’m still waiting on what might happen with my wife and daughter, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to play.
“I haven’t paid [any fines] yet; I just don’t know when I’m going to play. It could very well be a chance because it hasn’t been the easiest pregnancy, so I might not get a chance to tee off.”
Patrick Reed’s DP World Tour return could be a crucial moment
Reed’s return to the DP World Tour could prove to be a massive moment for LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.
The American’s desire to boost his world ranking points saw him settle his differences with the DP World Tour and finish T13 in the recent BMW International Open.
Reed failed to qualify for this week’s Open, but his participation in one of the significant tours could inspire others.
With world ranking points yet to count on Greg Norman’s venture, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see other LIV stars venture back onto the DP World Tour.
As for Rahm, his return at the Spanish Open – should his fines be cleared – would be the most significant move yet.
Arguably the most high-profile breakaway player participating back on tour could finally move the needle, something the golfing world has been crying out for.
