It’s an important week for Jon Rahm and the European Ryder Cup team as they prepare to take on the United States at Bethpage Black.

11 of the 12 European players will compete in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in front of a sellout crowd.

British golf fans may be particularly excited to watch Rahm, who nowadays plays around the world in the LIV Golf league.

The Spaniard is also one to watch at Wentworth because he loves the golf course and has an excellent record there.

Jon Rahm rates the BMW PGA Championship golf course highly

Rahm has never finished lower than fourth at the BMW PGA Championship, so it was not a surprise that he spoke highly about the event.

The 30-year-old explained why he rates the golf course at Wentworth so highly in his pre-tournament press conference.

“Well, one of those finishes was next to a very, very incredible last ten holes. But yeah, I feel comfortable every time I play this course,” Rahm said.

“I don’t know exactly what it is, but it’s a golf course I enjoy. It’s a week I enjoy a lot. It’s a fun city to come to. It’s a fun golf course to play. I think all that plays a part.

“It’s always the end of the year, after playing all the majors and all the tours, coming to a unique week like this one, a unique golf course like this one is always a treat.

“I look forward to it, and when I can come, it’s a fun experience, and I hope I can keep the streak alive.”

Rahm also appreciates the history of the BMW PGA Championship, which includes many legendary winners, such as Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, and Colin Montgomerie.

“It’s a lot of great history and great memories that I’m very fond of,” he continued. “I don’t know, this word can be understood in a weird way.

“This course is traditional, like what I grew up with, doglegs left and right, you don’t need to hit driver hard every time.

“It makes you think a little bit and makes you choose what you want to do off the tee, and that makes it a really fun golf course.”

Jon Rahm says whether he misses playing in DP World Tour event

Rahm was later asked whether he misses playing in DP World Tour events now that he spends most of his time on the LIV Golf tour.

He fairly pointed out that the lack of European events on his schedule has little to do with playing on LIV because he had the same problem when he was on the PGA Tour.

“I miss them as much as I ever did playing on the PGA Tour as well. Whenever it fits on the schedule, I’m going to be here,” Rahm responded.

“Same with The Irish Open. If the schedule changed and had been there every year, I’d go back, but I think I’m ready to make another appearance at The Irish Open because it’s a country that I love and a tournament that I love, and I’ve done really well.

“I don’t know what it is about this whole part of the schedule and those events, right, the Spanish event, the French Open, this, and the Dunhill, they are just really fun.

“And I think because of the intensity of the season or whatever it may be, it’s passed, in a weird way, it’s almost fun to be able to play these enjoyable weeks. Maybe that’s why I’ve always done well in these events in October.”
