After two days of The PGA Championship, Jon Rahm is nicely placed on two-under-par, six shots adrift of leader Jhonattan Vegas.
It has been a strange year so far for Rahm. It’s not like he’s been bad – far from it in fact.
The Spaniard has finished inside the top 10 in every single LIV event he has played this season, but he’s still yet to win, and his performance at The Masters was extremely disappointing to say the least.
He’ll be hoping that all of that changes at The PGA Championship this week.
Rahm is not yet guaranteed a spot on the Ryder Cup team, and unless he plays really well in the majors this season, he will have to rely on a captain’s pick from Luke Donald.

On his day, the 30-year-old is still one of the very best and most exciting players to watch in world golf.
Scottie Scheffler suggested ahead of The PGA Championship that Rahm reminds him of Tiger Woods, what with his intense focus on the golf course.
So can Rahm channel his inner Woods and fire himself towards the top of the leaderboard at The PGA on Saturday?
Jon Rahm has a score in mind on day three at the PGA Championship
We all know just how explosive Rahm can be when he’s firing on all cylinders.
If the two-time major champion turns up at Quail Hollow full of intent and gets his putter hot early, then watch out.
Rahm addressed the media on Friday night after his second consecutive round of one-under-par 70.
And he opened up on what he thinks he needs to shoot to be in with a chance of winning on Sunday.
“I think I’m in good position. Adding to the fact that I feel like I’m getting better, more confident with the swing. I made a lot of good swings out there today and gave myself plenty of chances,“ Rahm explained.
“Even though I made a really good par putt on 11, and the one on 8, I really didn’t make much else today. I hit a lot of good putts and they just didn’t roll in.

“So hopeful going into the weekend only six shots back, and if I can start the first few holes better than I played so far, make a few birdies and get a round going and post something around 3, 4-under, which I don’t feel like it’s something too much to ask. I feel like believe it or not, it’s doable.“
If Rahm shoots anything like 68 on Saturday afternoon, he will be in a really strong position heading into Sunday.
One thing’s for sure, he’s certainly capable of doing just that.
Jon Rahm’s stats on LIV and what they mean
Rahm’s numbers this year on LIV have been extremely consistent.
As mentioned previously, he has featured inside the top 10 in every single event he has played.
However, there is clear room for improvement from the Spanish firecracker.
| LIV stats | Rahm’s ranking |
| Greens in regualtion | 4th |
| Driving distance | 9th |
| Birdie average | 1st |
| Putting | T-15th |
| Scrambling | 4th |
| Overall standings | 3rd |
If the 30-year-old is to win this season, it’s clear to see that he needs to make some marginal gains with the putter.
And certainly if Rahm is to win the PGA Championship this week, he needs to get the flat-stick working.
