Scottie Scheffler is the world number one golfer, and he will be licking his lips ahead of The PGA Championship next week.

Scheffler finally got off the mark on the PGA Tour in 2025 with a dominating win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week.

However, he will be desperate to add at least one major to his collection of trophies this season.

Scheffler was so good at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson that he made fellow tour player Si Woo Kim feel ‘terrible’ about his game.

Si Woo isn’t the first person to have felt humbled by the 28-year-old Texan and he certainly won’t be the last.

Scheffler has spent this week at home ahead of the PGA Championship, after deciding to skip the Truist Championship.

And he is many fans’ favourite to win at Quail Hollow next week.

Scottie Scheffler gets accused of something that’s simply not true

Scheffler is extremely focused on the golf course when playing his shots.

That said, he is known to be quite relaxed in between shots, and is often seen laughing and joking with his playing partners.

However, some people just don’t see that side of Scheffler, or more to the point, they refuse to allow themselves to.

Johnson Wagner was speaking on the Fried Egg Golf podcast about the upcoming PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

And he busted a common myth about Scheffler.

Wagner said, “He doesn’t finish outside the top 10, and if he does, he’s certainly not finishing outside the top 20. What did he have one finish last year outside the top 20?

“And he does it in such a way that people are like, ‘oh Scotty’s boring’. He’s not boring, Scott, he’s hilarious. Watching him cut it up Thursday, Friday with Si Woo Kim and Jordan Spieth when they’re waiting all day on the golf course at TBC Craig Ranch. Like, the guy is awesome.

“I think it started at Valhalla last year when he got arrested and he was talking about the stretching in the prison cell, and that was a first. Like, I think he’s starting to just show us little snippets of his personality because he is, man, he is a fun dude.

“I saw him at the Hero World Challenge. I was invited to play the pro am and had this dinner and Scotty comes up to me and he’s like, ‘tell me a joke, Johnson’, in this, like, dry way.

“He’s like, he’s just, he’s a guy you want to go play golf and drink a couple beers with after the round. That’s who he is. And he does it in the most unassuming way. I just, I love him. I think he’s a role model for the future generation of golfers. You want to be like Scotty Scheffler.”

Scheffler has world number one record in his sight

The 28-year-old’s dominance in world golf over the past couple of years or so has been quite something to watch.

He is the most consistent player in professional golf by quite some way.

And he already sits in third place on the list of most weeks spent at the top of the Official Golf World Rankings since its inception in 1986.

He obviously has a long way to go to catch Tiger Woods – 545 weeks in fact, or just over 10 years, whichever way you want to look at it!

However, given Scheffler’s consistency, it would be no surprise to anyone to see him be at number one on that list by the time he decides to hang up his clubs.
