There is an argument that what Scottie Scheffler achieved in 2025 was more impressive than his remarkable 2024 season.
He may have won more in 2024, but Scottie Scheffler‘s six victories this past season saw the world number one make a huge statement.
How many majors do you think Scottie Scheffler will win during his career?
The world number one already has four majors under his belt
The 29-year-old would have been forgiven for struggling given how frequently his form was compared with Tiger Woods, particularly after taking some time to get going upon his return from a hand injury.
But Scheffler produced one of the most impressive runs the PGA Tour has seen in recent months. Along the way, he won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
He is now just a US Open victory away from completing the Career Grand Slam.
Johnson Wagner makes an ominous prediction about Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler is undoubtedly the most dominant player golf has had since Woods. And it seems that the only question now is whether he can sustain this success over a much longer period.
On his current trajectory, Scheffler will put himself alongside the greatest names to have ever played the game. But of course, he will not be getting at all carried away.
What will be interesting to see is whether a rival can emerge. Rory McIlroy is golf’s biggest superstar, while Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are also world-class performers. However, none of those players have come close to replicating Scheffler’s run in their careers.
And with that, Johnson Wagner has told 5 Clubs that he cannot see anyone stopping Scheffler over the coming seasons.

“No, no, they can’t [catch him in the next two years]. The only person who can reel Scottie Scheffler in is a wine glass. There’s nothing that is going to stop him,” he said.
“He’s so focused. He has this ability to put stuff behind him. After he wins a golf tournament, he doesn’t celebrate. He doesn’t celebrate. He just puts it behind him and goes forward to the next one. And I just think he’s uniquely positioned among this younger generation of guys, they’re playing for so much money, Scottie Scheffler doesn’t care how much money he makes. They’re playing for these huge tournaments, that’s all he cares about is winning trophies and getting better and being the best.
“Nobody’s going to run him down. He’s won Player of the Year for the fourth straight year. There’s only two people in history that have won Player of the Year four straight years. Obviously Tiger did it twice, and now Scottie Scheffler.
“I don’t like comparing Scottie to Tiger, but there’s nobody else to compare him to. He has been that dominant these last four seasons. Who would it be? Who would be able to chase him down? It would have to be a Luke Clanton, it would have to be somebody coming from college.”
Where Jordan Spieth needs to improve as he looks to end long wait for another PGA Tour win
One of the players who looked destined to put himself among the all time greats at one stage was Jordan Spieth.
Spieth won the first two majors of 2015. And he added a third major win in 2017. However, his most recent PGA Tour victory came in 2022.
The 2025 season looked set to be significant for the Texan after he had undergone wrist surgery. So it was slightly concerning that he so rarely put himself in the mix to win. He finished fourth on two occasions.
What do you think is the real reason why Jordan Spieth has not won on the PGA Tour since 2022?
Certainly, Wagner believes that it is imperative that the 32-year-old puts that right in the opening months of 2026.
“I need to see him in the hunt. I think we all need to see Jordan Spieth with a chance to win big golf tournaments on Sunday. And he gave it to us a couple of times early last year, but then it kind of fizzled,” he said.
“I think coming off that wrist injury, a year or so removed from it, it’s going to be better. But we have got to see him [contend]. And I need to see him hitting his irons like he did back in 2015. I think, for me, he’s gotten better off the tee. His strokes gained approach, if I have to give you a metric, it’s strokes gained approach is what I need to see out of Jordan.”
It would be fantastic for the game if Scheffler had someone pushing him at every step.
It would be phenomenal for the game if Spieth was somehow the person to emerge from the pack.
