Joel Dahmen is in a strong position heading into the weekend at the Wyndham Championship.

Dahmen shot a sizzling opening round of 61, and backed it up with a three-under par 67 in the rain-delayed second round of the Wyndham Championship.

It came as a big shock when Dahmen recently split with his long-term caddie Geno Bonnalie, and admitted that he needed a fresh start.

It has been a tough season for the man from Clarkston, Washington, overall.

Dahmen suffered disappointment at the Corales Puntacana Championship back in April, when he lost a one-shot lead over the final two holes to lose out to Garrick Higgo.

Now he will be determined to make up for that by winning the Wyndham Championship, although that will obviously be a lot easier said than done.

Joel Dahmen genuinely shocked by something at the Wyndham Championship

Dahmen cruised round Sedgefield Country Club during the first two rounds, with 15 birdies and just three bogeys to his name.

He does seem to be very comfortable with his game right now, which is obviously a positive thing.

The 37-year-old was asked to sum up his second round at the Wyndham Championship.

Dahmen said: There’s two Round 2s for me. The first one, Friday, was a bit tough for me. Speed of the greens I struggled with, I three-putted a couple times. Didn’t hit it in great spots. So it was kind of a nice reset for me, but I didn’t expect this in Greensboro, North Carolina, in August. This is unbelievable. It’s like 68 degrees and raining and windy. I think this is my seventh or eighth time here and this has never happened. It was a grind this morning, but I made a great couple par saves, made a couple great birdies and put myself in a great spot.

Dahmen was then asked what experiences he will draw upon as he looks to get back into the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour.

He said: Yeah, I had a little accident there in the spring at Corales, so I’m excited for this weekend, I get another chance at it. You never know when you get another chance. But I’m excited. My golf game’s pretty good right now, my head space is pretty good. Hopefully I get paired with Mark Hubbard. It’s looking like I am. Roommates this week, best friends, hopefully we have a great weekend.

That sounds like a man who is completely at ease with everything right now. That said, he surely won’t be feeling like that deep down inside.

Joel Dahmen’s 2025 PGA Tour results

Dahmen has always struggled with self belief throughout his career.

And it’s easy to see from his results that he has been low on confidence this season.

A win at the Wyndham Championship would instantly change everything for Dahmen.

Hopefully Dahmen manages to maintain his composure over the final two rounds and is able to remain aggressive in pursuit of the Wyndham Championship title.
