Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world, it really is very hard to argue against that statement.

However, Joaquin Niemann has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons by suggesting that LIV Golf actually have a player who is, in fact, more consistent than Scheffler.

Back in June 2022, numerous high-profile players left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.

Niemann made the move a few months later, while Scheffler stayed loyal to the PGA Tour.

Scheffler is playing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week, while the LIV golfers are in Chicago.

It was only last month when the world number one received fierce criticism from some corners of the golfing world.

Scheffler suggested that he gained no fulfilment from winning golf tournaments, and that the feeling of joy he gets after triumphing is fleeting to say the least.

Whatever you think of the 29-year-old, it’s very clear that he is the best golfer in the world, by a very long way as well.

It seems like Niemann doesn’t agree with that sentiment, though.

Joaquin Niemann claims LIV Golf have a golfer better than Scottie Scheffler

Niemann addressed the media on Wednesday ahead of LIV Golf Chicago.

And the Chilean made a huge claim about his fellow LIV golfer Jon Rahm.

He responded when asked if he is surprised that Rahm is yet to win on LIV in 2025.

Niemann said: Yeah, I mean, a little bit, yes. Obviously Jon has been playing — he’s probably the most consistent player in the world. He’s been in the top 10, I think, every week that he’s been playing on LIV.
Obviously he has the consistency. Every week that he plays he has a chance to win on Sunday, which is really impressive. But I feel like it’s just the way the point system is right now. I feel like they probably should have more points into winning. That would be awesome in my way. But it could be the other way next year, which I’m probably not going to win, I don’t know, and I can still have a chance to win on the last two tournaments, I will take that.

It all depends. In the situation that I am right now, obviously I would love to see more points for winning, but it’s just the way it’s set up.

Niemann was then asked if he is keen to emulate Rahm’s consistency in the game.

He said: Yeah, 100 percent. I feel like golf is a game of — the hardest thing about this game is being consistent. I feel like everybody could go and win, but to be consistently there, having a chance on Sunday of winning, is something really impressive, and it shows how strong your game has to be in every aspect. Whenever your driving is off, you’ve got your short game there to back you up. Same way if your irons are not the best, you’ve got to have the whole piece together, your whole game. You’ve got to be in shape.

It’s tough to be consistent, and it’s something that I’m always working on, and I feel like I’ve been getting more and more consistent every time.

If I look back to last year, it was probably more consistent than my year now, but I won more times this year. I mean, it’s hard to decide which one is better or not, but it’s obviously definitely harder to be consistent all year-round.

Scottie Scheffler vs Jon Rahm last eight major starts

Since Rahm left the PGA Tour, he has played eight major championships.

And Scheffler has been streets ahead of the Spaniard in every single one of the four biggest tournaments in the game since the start of 2024.

Niemann’s suggestion that Rahm is the most consistent golfer in the world was a bizarre one to say the least, considering the quality of golf that Scheffler has produced over the past two years.

It just sounds like more painful LIV propaganda that we hear far too much of these days.
