Ludvig Aberg is one of the very best golfers on the planet, and the frightening thing is that he has so many more levels still to reach.

It was November 2023 when Ludvig Aberg burst onto the scene by winning his first PGA Tour event – the RSM Classic.

However, the 25-year-old Swede had to wait until February of this year to add a second title to his resume, when he conquered Torrey Pines to lift the Genesis Invitational crown.

He will head to The Masters next week as one of the favourites, but Ludvig Aberg still needs to improve his short-game in order to win a green jacket.

Now well-known golf journalist Jaime Diaz has weighed in with a bold opinion on how he thinks Aberg could get better.

Jaime Diaz shares his controversial take on Ludvig Aberg

Diaz has an extensive career in golf journalism – one that has spanned over 30 years.

He is one of the most knowledgable people there is when it comes to the ins and outs of the beautiful game.

So when he speaks, golf fans are always eagerly waiting to hear his takes.

However, his latest comments really were quite controversial.

When speaking to the Friday Golf podcast, Diaz responded when asked about Aberg’s chances heading into Augusta National:

“I don’t want to short-change Aberg, he’s really impressive. Just the ease with which he plays and produces power, his game is so uncluttered. Man, he makes it looks so simple, and I’m sure it isn’t. It’s almost counter intuitive and it works against him in my sense of him, totally unfairly – maybe he just doesn’t have that edge about him, it’s almost too easy. Now that’s so dumb, because he finished second at The Masters, and he’s won – he played great at Torrey, he was beautiful to watch. But you know, will he really step on the gas and go for something special, or will he just have this very elevated career that won’t have as many highlights as it seems he’s capable of?

I want to see the passion I guess. Aberg is almost like, ‘I have this gift and it’s so cool’. Come on man, you’ve got it so get the most out of it. For appearances sake, it seems like he’s got another gear that he hasn’t emotionally accessed yet.”

Ludvig Aberg says there’s something wrong with his game right now

Aberg isn’t completely happy with his game right now.

He’s incredibly long off the tee and is a very strong iron player. Whilst his short-game isn’t completely top tier, he’s still very competent with a wedge and a putter in his hand.

However, he’s clearly just a little bit off right now.

Aberg recently explained what’s bothering him with his swing at the moment:

“I felt like I was swinging it OK early on and a little bit better now, but I still sort of have this where my face gets a little bit open at the bottom and I can’t really turn.

“Like to get the face a little bit more shut and closer so I can turn and not necessarily flip my hands if I want to hit a nice little draw.

That doesn’t sound like he’s too far off where he needs to be.

Ludvig Aberg will undoubtedly go on to have a very long and successful career. As Jaime Diaz openly admitted, his take on the Swede was a controversial one to say the least.
