Jack Nicklaus has claimed one LIV Golf star has told him he still hopes to win the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The 18-time major winner is hosting this week’s signature event, which is the last tournament before the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No.2
Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele are just a handful of the big names present in Dublin ahead of Thursday’s first tee.
On Tuesday, Nicklaus was present in front of the media and provided 38 minutes of entertainment for those present and watching around the world.

Midway through his press conference, Nicklaus was asked whether he was surprised by some of the names of those who have failed to win the Memorial Tournament over the years.
McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, for example, have tried and failed multiple times at the challenging Ohio venue.
And when talking about Mickelson, the 18-time major champion insisted the LIV Golf man still has a desire to triumph at the prestigious PGA Tour event.
“They still have time,” he explained. “Phil kept coming here, and he said I am coming back. I said, ‘Phil, your resume isn’t complete until you win at Muirfield’ he said I know, and I want to win there. Guys like to win here.”

With the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s talks at a standstill, it’s hard to envisage any of the breakaway tour players returning anytime soon.
Mickelson was one of the biggest names to depart and has made his feelings on the current situation very clear.
Although he might still have a desire to win the Memorial, whether it’s a realistic goal remains to be seen. Nicklaus’ comments have probably been made with a tinge of jest.
And, after the 84-year-old’s reluctance to talk about the current division in golf, it’s clear Nicklaus isn’t too fussed about anything he says regarding LIV and the PGA Tour’s situation.
