The Ryder Cup is back on US soil in 2025 and Tiger Woods has been speaking about potentially being the captain.
With little chance of actually playing in the tournament, Woods knows the next best step for him is to be involved as the captain of the ship.
After a disastrous tournament over in Rome in 2023, team USA are looking to win back the coveted trophy on home soil and there’s been talk of Woods being the man to lead.
As we know, Zach Johnson’s stint as skipper didn’t go too well and there’s a feeling in the US that a top guy is needed to stitch things back together. That man, for many golf fans, is Woods.
However, nothing is sealed just yet and Woods has been detailing just why nothing has been set in stone.

Tiger Woods responds when asked if he’ll be Team USA’s Ryder Cup captain in 2025
Speaking in his press conference ahead of playing in the PGA Championships this week, Woods was asked about whether or not he’d agreed to become Ryder Cup captain just yet.
“We’re still talking. There’s nothing that has been confirmed yet. We’re still working on what that might look like and also whether or not I have the time to do it,” Woods said.
“I’m dedicating so much time to what we’re doing on PGA Tour, I don’t want to not fulfil the role of the captaincy if I can’t do, what that all entails, representing team USA and the commitments to PGA of America, the players, and the fans and all of team USA. I need to feel I can give the amount of time that it deserves.”
Woods simply has to take the role
Tiger Woods has never ever been one to shy away from competition and surely the lure of taking charge of a team that’s a bit broken is a challenge for him?
As broken as it might be, some of the talent Woods can call upon is off the scale. Scottie Scheffler is world number one, while Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay are two of the very best around.
Throw those in with experienced top players like Justin Thomas and Justin Spieth, in addition to some up and comers like Wyndham Clark and Sahith Theegala, and the US team looks mightily strong.
Woods, then, simply has to find time to take the role. He’s not winning anytime soon on tour, so if he can win the Ryder Cup as captain, it would mean the world to him.
