Bryson DeChambeau has joked that he was so annoyed to not beat Paul Casey on Sunday at LIV Hong Kong, with his Crushers GC teammate making the individual play-off.
It was another successful weekend for Crushers GC. They won the team event last week in Jeddah, coming from miles back on the final day to clinch the title.
And they were at it again in Hong Kong. This time around, Crushers fought back from seven shots behind on the final day. The quartet of Paul Casey, Bryson DeChambeau, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri shot a final day -14 to win by two.
Bryson DeChambeau jokes he’s annoyed to not beat Paul Casey
Casey and DeChambeau were in a group together for the final round. The team captain finished tied for sixth individually after shooting a -4. Meanwhile, Casey put himself in the play-off against overnight leader Abraham Ancer and Open champion Cameron Smith.

Understandably, DeChambeau was delighted with his team. However, speaking to LIV afterwards, the American joked that he would have loved to have edged his teammate.
“First off, I’m super p—-d to not beat him today. Second, I’m super proud of him for being tied for the lead and going down to a play-off. I had a chance today. I had so many lip outs today,” he said.
“But that’s the crazy dynamic about it. The same thing happened with me at Chicago last year. Even when he holed out on the last hole to beat me, I still gave him the biggest high five because it’s so cool. It’s such a cool team dynamic that we have, and super special.
“But I’m proud of him, I’m going to go watch him, see how he finishes it off. This is a good hole for him.”
Crushing disappointment in individual play-off
Unfortunately for Casey, a bogey on the first play-off hole was not enough. The 46-year-old went right off the 18th tee and needed to lay-up with the green blocked out by the trees.
With Cameron Smith making a big mistake with his approach – leaving himself plugged in the greenside bunker – Ancer put himself right into the driving seat with his second shot.
Smith made bogey before Casey followed him in with a five. And that left Ancer with the pressure off for his birdie putt which clinched the individual title.
Thankfully for Casey, he was still able to get his hands on one trophy in Hong Kong.
