As the build-up to the 2025 PGA Tour season begins, it’s easy to forget about those who are jostling for position during the FedEx Cup fall.

The fall stretch, starting at the Procore Championship, gives lesser-known players a chance to earn PGA Tour cards for the following season.

The PGA Tour has been urged to change the fall format, but for those competing, the chance to earn a spot on golf’s most prestigious circuit is career-defining.

Essentially a prolonged Q-School, events such as the Shriners Children’s Open, Black Desert Championship, Sanderson Farms Championship, ZOZO Championship and WWT Championship have taken place in recent weeks.

Interestingly, Wesley Bryan, who is well-known for producing YouTube content, is firmly in contention to earn a spot inside the top 125 after some impressive performances in recent weeks.

It’s undoubtedly a slog during the fall, with rest at a premium for the players fighting for their PGA Tour futures, and it should come as no surprise to see the player who has played more than anyone else in 2024 still in action.

Matthias Schmid: The golfer who has played the most PGA Tour golf in 2024

German Matthias Schmid has played 33 events in 2024 and is one clear of Eric Cole, Ben Griffin and Jorge Campillo.

Ryo Hisatune and Adam Svensson have both played 31 times, and Robert MacIntyre and Adam Schenk have both competed 30 times.

Interestingly, Schmid isn’t the player who’s completed the most rounds on the PGA Tour; that title goes to Campillo. The Spaniard has participated in 110 rounds since the start of 2024.

Schmid has 109 rounds to his name, Griffin 108 and Cole 107. Irishman Shane Lowry has also racked up an impressive 101 rounds since the start of the year.

Schmid began his 2024 season at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he missed the cut after finishing level par. The German then missed the following five cuts in a highly disappointing start to the year.

Positive signs, however, emerged at the Puerto Rice Open, where the German finished in the top ten. The following week, at The Players Championship, Schmid finished T26 on 15 under at TPC Sawgrass in what is typically one of the most demanding fields in golf.

A run of missed cuts would once again occur from the end of April until the end of June, during which Schmid finished well out of contention at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

Thankfully, during the FedEx Cup fall, the 26-year-old’s form has re-emerged. A T3 finish at the Shriners came after Schmid placed 5th at the Black Desert Championship. Schmid is currently 91st in the FedEx Cup fall standings and on track to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2025 season.
