Golf can be a very expensive sport for the average player, with expenses like clubs, memberships, apparel, and lessons all eating into the budget.

For years, golf has been seen as a sport only the more wealthy can play but over the last decade especially, work has been done to make the sport accessible to all.

Of course, like with any sport or hobby, the better you want to be, then the more money you’re likely to have to invest in such things.

In golf, one of the best investments any player can make is into lessons and coaching. Players right from the 30 handicapper up to the PGA Tour pros have golf coaches.

Indeed, Anthony Kim named his top coaches just this week, with Tiger Woods’ long-term partner Hank Haney among those mentioned.

But while the Haney/Woods partnership is well known, the inspiration behind Phil Mickelson’s iconic and brilliant short-game is less known.

Step forward, then, Dave Pelz.

How much it costs for a lesson with Phil Mickelson’s short-game coach

Dave Pelz is the man credited with helping Phil Mickelson hone what is now considered one of the best and most creative short-games in golf history.

However, for those wanting a bit of time on the range with Pelz, it’s time to start saving up.

Previous reports have claimed that Pelz now charges over $30,000 a day for a session with him. That is huge money, and puts him top of the pile when it comes to golf coaches and cost.

Pelz does offer clinics at his venues around the world, with his official website advertising vouchers for these clinics ranging from $595 for a day school, to $2000 for a two-day one.

Which other golfers has Dave Pelz coached?

Most of the top coaches in golf have a whole host of top names on their resume and Dave Pelz is no different.

He has partnered up with golfers who have won 20 majors between them, so his success is no fluke.

As well as Phil Mickelson, Pelz is well known for working with Patrick Reed, Vijay Singh, and the legendary Payne Stewart.

English golfer Colin Montgomerie was also a student of Pelz, while 2003 Masters champion and Presidents Cup captain, Mike Weir, also worked under Pelz.

It goes without saying that this is a phenomenal record and while the fees seem huge, Pelz will argue he can justify such costs due to his record.
