Henrik Stenson certainly provided some interesting decisions as he was asked to build his ‘perfect’ golfer, with Sergio Garcia and Majesticks teammate Ian Poulter getting a mention.

Of course, it is one of the most interesting debates for golf fans to have; putting together the best aspects of the greatest to have ever played the game to assemble the most well-rounded player possible.

Unsurprisingly, Ian Poulter recently picked Tiger Woods for both his iron play and his putting when tackling the same debate. Meanwhile, Seve Ballesteros’ short game and creativity were taken.

But while many will agree with Poulter’s selections, Henrik Stenson‘s choices are much more likely to divide opinion.

While the Swede opted to take Woods’ mentality and the creativity of Bubba Watson, he also picked out Ian Poulter’s short game and Sergio Garcia‘s driving.

Perhaps most intriguingly, Stenson opted for the putting of Jordan Spieth

How has Jordan Spieth putted in 2024?

Obviously, there is absolutely no question that every player Stenson picked is world-class. Apart from Poulter, they are all major champions, while Poulter is undoubtedly one of the greatest players the Ryder Cup has ever seen.

However, there are definitely some contentious picks in there – most notably, Spieth.

Spieth is a three-time major champion and there was a period in 2015 when it just appeared that he was never going to miss a putt. But unfortunately, things have been a lot harder for the Texan in recent years.

Spieth has not won on the PGA Tour since 2022, while his last major win was seven years ago now. A large reason for that has been injury, with Spieth undergoing surgery on a wrist problem this year. But he appears to have lost the magic on the greens which made him so successful.

According to the PGA Tour website, Spieth is 93rd for strokes gained with the flat stick. He is also 70th on tour for one putt percentage – though that may be more to do with the difficulties he has had hitting irons due to his injury.

Perhaps Stenson feels that he has never seen anyone putt better than Spieth did in that 2015 season when he won five times in total. But it does seem to be a strange choice given some of the purple patches other players have had down the years.
